Riding Tips

Sitting on your machine, with your life jacket on and the key in your hand, you will learn the start, stop and ignition buttons. We will show you the controls: the throttle in your right hand and reverse in your left hand. Then we will explain the rules under which you will enjoy the feeling of driving a marvel of engineering on the open sea. Ready? Sure? Let's hit the water!!

We are now moving, riding inside the port — what a feeling, right? Wait until we reach the open sea.

Inside the port, when leaving and entering, we do NOT touch the throttle — we only use the handlebars to keep our direction. The jet ski's idle speed moves it forward without needing to press the throttle (a trigger like on quads, not a twist grip like on road motorbikes).

The instructor will lead the tour at all times, so NEVER overtake them. Each instructor can supervise four jet skis, so if the group is larger there will be two instructors, one of whom will always lead the way at the speed they consider most suitable for the group.

We will keep a minimum distance of 50 metres from anything that floats: buoys, boats, windsurfers, kayaks and the jet skis themselves. We will ride either in single file or spread out on both sides of the instructor.

Remember that the jet ski has NO brakes, so we NEVER head straight towards another vessel or floating object. It is important to know that once you stop accelerating, the jet ski keeps gliding through the water, increasing the stopping distance. That is why we never ride towards anything floating in the sea.

Hold the handlebars firmly but without stiffness, arms relaxed, stay calm — you will get the hang of it in 5 minutes.

Never cross the imaginary line joining the yellow buoys: 200 metres from the beach shore there is a line of yellow buoys marking the swimming area. You can probably guess, but just in case: crossing the yellow buoys is FORBIDDEN.

You need to keep accelerating to maintain control and traction on the jet ski. No trigger, no control. You must keep the trigger pressed to perform manoeuvres such as turning (with more or less pressure depending on the intended speed).

Speed is not a problem. Once out of the port, FULL THROTTLE! We only ask for a SAFE DISTANCE. We can go fast — that is perfectly fine and in fact we love it — but it is absolutely necessary to keep plenty of distance from the other jet skis. We are very strict about this. Distance = Safety.

The photos and videos we take are in motion — that is why you like them so much. The instructor stops, asks the riders to trace lines, and when you get close, snaps a shot that immortalises the moment. DISTANCE!!!!

You turned hard, did not shift your weight and fell into the water — nice and refreshing, right? OK, we laugh about it and you climb back onto the jet ski. You get on via the platform at water level, from behind the jet ski — easier than from the side.

Any problem? The instructor is with you, watching at all times, so no drama. Raise your arms and move them slowly from waist to head, and the instructor will be with you shortly.

We head back to port, release the trigger when the instructor tells us and you relax with that feeling running through your body... Thank you for enjoying Jet Ski Tours Salou & Cambrils.
